Tjayanka Woods was born around 1935. A senior Pitjantjatjarra artist, born close to KalayaPiti (Emu Water) near Mimili and Wataru, South Australia, Tjayanka lived a semi-nomadic lifestyle in the bush, frequently camping at KalayaPiti.
Walking long distances in the desert where traditional knowledge is vital for survival she acquired intimate understanding of the environment, hunting for ngintaka (goanna), tinka (lizards), kalaya (emu) and would gather bushfoods such as Kampurarpa (desert raisin), ili (figs) and make (wood grubs).
